Vitola Specifications: For this review, I selected the Diesel Disciple Lancero, a slender vitola measuring 7 x 38. The lancero size is known for intensifying flavors, promising an intense smoking experience.
Appearance: The Diesel Disciple Lancero is wrapped in a dark, oily Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Its construction is impeccable, displaying a solid, well-packed cigar. The band is eye-catching, showcasing the edgy Diesel logo.
Tasting Notes (1st Third): Upon lighting, the Diesel Disciple Lancero unleashes a powerful blast of black pepper, accompanied by dark chocolate and a hint of espresso. The draw is slightly resistant, enhancing the anticipation of each puff. The initial third is a bold introduction to the cigar’s robust profile. Smooths out very quickly into a lovely chocolate and leather notes with some rich earthy undertones on the retro hale. There is a bit of pepper that lingers. Tons of dark chocolate with a touch of sweetness and savoriness. The retro transitions to some cashews with pepper towards end of first third.
Tasting Notes (2nd Third): Moving into the second third, the Lancero maintains its full-bodied character. The pepper remains prominent, but now it’s complemented by earthy undertones and a touch of cedar. The flavors are intense, and the strength of the cigar asserts itself, providing a satisfying and complex experience. The flavors start to tranistion to a sweeter dark chocolate wth a hint of anise or licorice and charred cedar or oak. The burn is phenomenal on this lancero and you do not have to babysit it like with most lanceros. The ash has held on for 3-4 inches which is impressive at 38 ring gauge. The retro hale is smooth almost no pepper and is very rich. A nice sweetness or honey type flavor lingers on the palate towards end of this third. I ended up smoking pretty quickly but also smoked outside with a slight breeze. The construction and burn holding up in the breeze just shows how well constructed this stick is.
Tasting Notes (Final Third): In the final third, the Diesel Disciple Lancero continues its bold journey. The flavors deepen, offering a mix of leather, dark coffee, and charred wood. The intensity is at its peak, showcasing the cigar’s powerhouse nature. The finish is long and robust, leaving a lasting impression. The strength goes from medium to full real quick. I have slowed down my pace quite a bit as I enjoy a cup of Colombian coffee with my stogie. The flavors start to transition into a bbq and more dark chocolate with a touch of honey sweetness lingering on my palate. Aroma is more peppery with cedar and typical barnyard notes. Towards the end of the cigar, the flavors transition into a strong milk chocolate with honey and a spicy nutty twang at the end of the retrohale. Overall, very impressed with this stick, somewhat one dimensional with only one clear transition. But the flavors were strong and prominent without overpowering my palate.
