Prelight: For me Padrons always have a typical barnyard aroma and chocolate or leather undertones on cold draws and prelight. I don’t really get that much pre light from this cigar either although there is a bit of sweetness in the cold draw.

First Third: The Padron 1964 Anniversary Soberano Maduro Tubo opens with a burst of dark cocoa and espresso notes with a large peppery retro hale. The initial draw is smooth, revealing hints of black pepper that add a subtle kick to the palate. The smoke is creamy and velvety, coating the taste buds with a luscious layer of earthy richness. Leather and molasses notes get a bit overwhelmed by pepper for the first half an inch. I find that this is quite normal for Padron’s and Nicaraguan cigars. Although age mellows the bite. The aroma is a beautiful chocolate, earthy, leather with some spice (from the pepper). The cigar starts to transitions away from pepperiness into a rich chocolate fudge without the sweetness. Savory meatiness start to define the mouthfeel of the smoke. It is almost like a BBQ in the palate without an overpowering amount of smokiness. The cigar starts to mellow out half way through the third into a nice meaty chocolate and leather. Still no hint of sweetness or heavy pepper that the first cold draw and start of the cigar preluded to. The retrohale is now smooth with that nice smoky BBQ undertone.

Second Third: As the cigar progresses into the second third, the flavors deepen and evolve. The meaty BBQ note transforms into strong undertones of leather and dark chocolate. The pepper remains present but mellows out, allowing the complex blend of flavors to shine and a retro hale that doesn’t burn your nostrils off. The smoke remains cool and well-balanced, making each puff a delight. The Construction is a bit of a wind tunnel and you should smoke it delicately an slowly in order to get the full flavor profiles. Burn is surprisingly wonky but seems to be self correcting from the original canoe as I slow down and let the cigar cool down a bit. At the end of the second third, the cigar transitions into a sweeter honey BBQ note. Delicious!

Final Third: In the final third, the Padron 1964 Anniversary Soberano Maduro Tubo reaches its crescendo of flavors. The chocolate and honey BBQ note take the forefront. The cigar starts takes on a slightly nutty character, intertwining with the lingering cedar and leather notes with a nice sweetness on the palate. The burn has evened itself out along with a beautiful ash cone. The smoke remains smooth and consistent, maintaining its creamy texture. The cigar finishes strong, leaving a satisfying and memorable aftertaste with leather, smoky BBQ and some chocolate lingering on my palate. Overall a Phenomenal cigar!

Specific Food and Drink Pairings: Pairing the Padron 1964 Anniversary Soberano Maduro Tubo with the right food and drink can enhance the overall experience. Consider savoring this exquisite cigar with a rich, single-origin dark chocolate to amplify the cocoa notes in the smoke. For beverages, a well-aged tawny port would be an excellent choice, as its fruity sweetness and nutty undertones would harmonize beautifully with the cigar’s flavors.

Score out of 100: I would rate the Padron 1964 Anniversary Soberano Maduro Tubo a solid 95 out of 100. Its impeccable construction, balanced flavor profile, and the way it evolves through each third showcase the mastery that Padron Cigars is known for. This cigar is a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence and its ability to consistently deliver an exceptional smoking experience.

In conclusion, the Padron 1964 Anniversary Soberano Maduro Tubo is a prime example of a well-crafted cigar that pays homage to tradition while offering a remarkable journey of flavors.
