Tasting Notes in Thirds:
Prelight: Cacao, leather and some cinnamon.
Cold Draw: Some cinnamon, cacao, earthiness and leather notes. No soft spots in the cigar, beautiful looking lancero.
First Third (0-1 inch): The Wise Man Lancero begins with an enticing aroma of rich cocoa and earthy notes. The initial draw is effortless, revealing a medium to full-bodied smoke. Flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, and a subtle peppery spice dance on the palate. The burn is even, and the ash holds firm, showcasing the cigar’s expert craftsmanship. Transitions to some licorice, meaty BBQ with pepper and some dark chocolate. Undertones of leather and cinnamon spiciness. A nice sweetness is coming through with the BBQ and chocolate flavors. Retrohale is a bit spicy nut nothing like the first half an inch. Aroma is pepper, chocolate and some vanilla. Burn and construction is some of the best I have seen in a lancero. Wavy white ash and very straight and strong. It is very hard to smoke this guy slowly. The third ends with a spicy meaty profile with leather and chocolate undertones and a hint of creaminess.
Second Third (1-3 inches): As the cigar progresses into the second third, the complexity deepens. The dark chocolate notes evolve into a creamy mocha, accompanied by hints of leather and cedar. The pepper spice remains in the background, providing a pleasant contrast to the sweeter flavors. The draw continues to be smooth, and the smoke is velvety and aromatic. The espresso and leather comes to the forefront. Still has some pepper meaty BBQ flavors and some dark chocolate. As I get to the half way point it transitions to a sweeter chocolate and leather note. Construction and burn is still impeccable. No spice in the retro hale anymore.
Final Third (3-7.5 inches): In the final third, the Wise Man Lancero reaches its crescendo. The mocha flavors intensify, intermingling with notes of roasted nuts and a touch of dried fruit sweetness. There is a sweet honey note with undertones of chocolate and leather. Retrohale is buttery smooth and the aroma is sweet chocolatey and espresso. Construction and burn is still impeccable. No spice in the retro hale until the end. The pepper spice makes a resurgence, adding a zesty kick to the lingering finish. The construction remains impeccable, with no bitterness or harshness even as you approach the nub.
